Bethel Township has Been a Bit Sweeter These Last Few Years

By Ashley McElroy

As the weather starts to warm up in Ohio, it's time to indulge in one of life's greatest pleasures - ice cream. And when you're in the mood for a tasty treat, look no further than DJ's Chill ‘n Grill, located on Route 40 in Bethel Township. Whether you're craving a tasty meal or a refreshing cold dessert, DJ's has got you covered. This family-owned establishment is dedicated to providing delicious and made-to-order food that will satisfy your hunger and taste buds. You can either enjoy your meal in the comfort of your car through their convenient drive-thru or sit back and relax at their outdoor picnic tables.

Diana Jones, affectionately known as DJ, is the proud owner of this hidden gem. DJ's Chill ‘n Grill was born out of her desire to pursue her passion and break free from the corporate world. After dedicating nearly three decades of her life to working at Procter & Gamble, DJ knew it was time for a change. She dreamed of something bigger and more fulfilling. Inspiration struck during one of her many trips with her daughter to Ohio Northern. During these trips, DJ and her family often stopped by a local ice cream shop for soft serve cones. This ignited a spark within DJ. She began to wonder if she could bring that same happiness to her own community of Bethel Township. And so, the idea for DJ's Chill ‘n Grill was born.

After careful planning and hard work, DJ's dream became a reality a year later.  DJ's Chill ‘n Grill officially opened in October 2018. They serve everything from hamburgers, pizza, and chicken tenders, and even some of their classics like the Codfather, Footlong Pup, and Philly Moo Sub.  They serve soft-serve ice cream at DJ’s, and let me tell you, it is delicious.  I highly recommend my personal favorite, a black raspberry shake or a simple twist in a cup with sprinkles. DJ’s has malts, shakes, sundaes, and chillers (soft serve ice cream mixed with your favorite treats), and they even serve Dole Whip, which is a family favorite of ours. Dole Whip is a perfect option for those living a dairy-free life. It is similar to a Sherbert type treat. You can get a straight Dole-Whip or a twist with their vanilla ice cream. Both are a huge hit in our household.

But back to DJ.  She wasn’t simply trying to pave a path for her retirement; she yearned for her business to benefit the small community of Bethel Township. She made it her mission to serve the community in various ways. One goal was to offer delicious treats to both the locals and visitors, and another was to utilize the land that had been in her family for generations. DJ said, “I most importantly wanted to provide a safe haven for families and friends, a place that fosters people to be present in the moment and to make memories for years to come.”

DJ also aimed for her business to be a source of community service, giving back to the community that had given so much to her and her family. By establishing a foundation of service, DJ hopes to one day pass DJ's Chill ‘n Grill to her daughter, Alyssa Jones. DJ prides herself on “Our employees treating others the way they want to be treated…doing the right things for each other and our customers and leaving things better than when they began.”

So, the next time you crave a tasty, quick meal or a delightful cold dessert, head over to DJ's Chill ‘n Grill. Experience the warm and friendly atmosphere, enjoy the delicious food, and treat yourself to a taste of happiness right in the heart of Bethel Township. Stop by soon - DJ and the staff would love to see you!
