Covered Wagon Farm Market plans greenhouse opening
UNION- The Covered Wagon Farm Market will celebrate the opening of its 25,000 square-foot greenhouse for the season during a special Grand Opening on Saturday, April 26.
Located on North Main Street in Union, the greenhouse will offer refreshments and free slushies during the Grand Opening, which will also include special sales and a giveaway for the first customers to arrive.
“The first 15 customers will get a free hanging basket,” Covered Wagon Market owner Dan Garber said.
The greenhouse, which officially opened for the season on April 3, also offers hanging baskets, patio pots and pouches buy three, get one free.
“That’s a special we’ve had since we opened,” Garber said. “We give more hanging baskets away than most people sell.”
The greenhouse features a large selection of flowers and vegetable plants in flats, hanging baskets, pouches and containers, as well as ironworks, wind chimes, decorative pottery, birdhouses and birdbaths.
“We carry fertilizers, sprays and things like that, too,” Garber said.
The greenhouse is located next to the Covered Wagon Farm Market, 607 N. Main St., Union, which also offers an indoor dining area with a full-service bakery and deli.
“We have fudge and hand-dipped ice cream,” Garber said. “While you’re shopping at the garden center, you can stop and get a sandwich or soup.”
The farm market also carries fresh produce and baked goods, nuts, candy, snacks, gifts and other unique items. The farm market and greenhouse are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
A family-run business, the Covered Wagon Farm Market opened in 2009. The market is owned by Garber and his wife, Rachel, who also live in Union.
“We raised wholesale produce before and went to farmers markets, then we decided to open our own market,” Garber said.
“We wanted to open it as a family and work together as a family; that’s why we opened it,” he said. “Our business is in Union, and we live in Union.”
