MU Girls Track finds success at first home meet

The track team competed in its second meet of the season on Tuesday, April 1, on their home track at Lowry Sports Complex.

After a successful day of competition at their previous meet at Troy High School, the girls’ team was prepared for a quick turnaround and to try out new events. 

Although the boys’ team also competed at this meet, we will cover only the girls’ events in this article.

This meet consisted of Milton-Union, Oakwood, Miami East, Covington, Tippecanoe, and Graham Local. 

To start the night off, the girls 4x800 meter relay teams competed. Milton’s team took the win running a time of 10:55.51, with Oakwood and Covington finishing second and third. 

In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Kate Copp placed third running a time of 17.87 with teammate Sophie Layman finishing in fourth place with a time of 18.75. This race consisted of 17 total runners. 

Freshman Bailie Wolfe competed in the 100-meter dash and finished in third place with a time of 14.41. Senior Autumn Brazie was also in this race and finished in seventh place with a time of 14.93. 

In the 1600-meter run, sophomore Sydnie Bartlett finished seventh of 19 total runners in a time of 6:12.15 and freshman Amelia Iddings placed tenth in a time of 6:36.27.

The girls 4x100 meter relay team placed eighth with a time of 1:02.26.

Senior Jenna Brumbaugh took the win in the 400-meter dash running a time of 1:02.51. 

Other runners for Milton in this race consisted of Evie Dehus, who placed tenth with a time of 1:12.47, and Sophia Blackburn, who placed thirteenth with a time of 1:28.33. 

In the 300-meter hurdles, Copp and Layman were neck and neck, with Copp finishing in third place with a time of 51.95 and Layman in fourth with a time of 52.67. 

As for the 800-meter run, freshman Madalyn Korte placed sixth with a time of 2:49.87, and Iddings placed ninth with a time of 2:55.9. 

In the 3200-meter run, freshman Aubree Bates placed third with a time of 13:09.75. 

For the running events on the girls’ side, the 4x400 meter relay team placed third out of 7 with a time of 4:38.36. 

In the girls' high jump, Layman placed second, jumping a height of 46", and Copp tied for third, jumping a height of 46” as well, just with more attempts. 

Brumbaugh also took the win in long jump where she jumped a distance of 15’ 5 ¼”. 

In discus, Emerie Basiden placed eighth, throwing a distance of 68’ 6”, and Monica Studebaker placed tenth, throwing a distance of 63’ 8”. 

Madilyn Keys placed sixth in the shotput where she threw a distance of 25’ 8 ½”. Studebaker placed eighth with a throw of 23’ 8 ¾”. 

Finally, in the pole vault, Dehus tied for fourth and vaulted 7’0” and Alaina Manning placed sixth with a vault of 6’6”.
