TABLE SALT: Impossible circumstance
We have a manure pile behind the barn. All the feces from the calves, chickens, and sheep, goes on the mound. But until then, it isn’t pleasant to look at or inhale. My daughters don’t mind at all. They see it as a mountain to climb and roll in laughter while they hold hands and jump off the top. We noticed a corn stalk sprouting up right from the middle of the manure pile. We let it grow and over the course of the summer, the stalk produced several hearty ears of corn. What a site. In the pile of smelly manure, stood a vegetable, suitable for consumption.
The corn grew despite its impossible circumstances. What we use at our home for waste and scraps, the corn used to spread its roots and shoot up a strong stalk. The circumstances seemed impossible for corn to grow in. We never planted the seed, watered it or tended to it, like we do our vegetable garden.
What situation are you facing that feels impossible to escape? Where is God in all of the mess? It might feel like you’re in the thick of the manure pile, but God can and will use everything and every situation for His glory. Whatever smelly manure you are in today, root yourself in Christ’s word and allow Him to work in and through you to shoot out a stable stalk capable of producing a hearty crop. God wants to help you grow through the circumstances you are living in today. Will you waste away into the manure pile or will you stand up and make the best out of where you have been planted?
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
