Lunch Break: Holler Cookin From Home

Sampling dishes and diners in and around Miami County

It’s the season of cookouts, barbeques, and evenings by the pool. For many, the cooking part of the cookout season can be daunting, but for Teia Adkins, cooking is second nature. Teia has been selling delicious meals from her Tipp City home for a few years now through her business, Holler Cookin—a business that is blooming, and for good reason.

Holler Cookin is inspired by the devoted mom’s Kentucky hometown and roots, where her love for cooking and “feeding people” originated. Teia has many yummy options on her Facebook menu. However, I am personally a sucker for buffalo chicken dip.

Mac and Cheese is Teia’s specialty, so when I ordered the buffalo rendition, I knew I was in good hands, and boy, did it not disappoint. Her Mac and Cheese was first recognized by her church when she brought it in for a potluck one day. “I wasn’t allowed at the church unless I brought it.” The tasty dish was full of cheesy flavors and topped with juicy chicken and a spicy touch of hot buffalo sauce. I could taste the attention to detail in every bite.

I also opted for her perfectly gooey smores treats. Unfortunately, I shared these with my family; the whole pan was gone the night I brought it home. Teia stitched together the comforting summer taste of smores by combining crunchy Cinnamon cereal, chocolate chips, marshmallows, and, as far as I’m concerned, magic together into the perfect mixture. After closing my eyes and taking a bite, I was transported to a crackling fire on a cool summer evening. Beware, after ordering, I’m not sure you’ll ever be satisfied by a regular old rice crispy treat ever again. Although I tried the buffalo mac, Teia has a variety of Mac and cheeses to choose from. Her favorite, however, is still the classic baked cheese and noodle dish. The young cook is constantly tweaking her recipes for her loyal customers. Being a mom herself, Teia has found new ways to incorporate vegetables and fun flavors into each unique rendition, and in turn, Holler Cookin has taken off.

Teia has big dreams of one day owning her own Holler Cookin food truck or restaurant, and when that dream comes true, I hope it lands here in Tipp City. Teia’s warmth and love for cooking are recognizable in every bite, and her fun personality and positive attitude are baked into every dish she makes in the kitchen of her happy home. If you happen to hear about the company potluck, church pitch-in, or family get-together while you're sitting at your lunch break; don't stress over what to bring. One of Teia’s dishes will surely have your loved ones begging for more Holler Cookin.
