Rumor Has It….
Written by Miranda Fox
Rumor has it…that the Bulldog Diner in West Milton is under new ownership. A quick visit to the diner, located at 30 Lowry Dr., has revealed that it is NOT the case. I spoke with owner Gina Johnson, who has said they are making changes around the diner, including the addition of Chef Bill Wood and dinner service. She has been trying to add dinner for several months and stated that she is “100% excited for nights and fully supports Chef Bill” as he curates dinner specialties. Dinner at the Diner has come at a great time as the Pearson House has recently closed its doors.
Chef Bill has worked at the Sinclair Conference Center as the Executive Chef for the past 17 years and has joined the Bulldog Diner, curating a menu of diverse dinner entrees and homestyle meals. His wife, April, worked at the Diner previously and they are both excited about this new opportunity. Chef Bill enjoys the atmosphere and fellowship that the Bulldog Diner gives the residents of the West Milton community.
All the food prepared at the Bulldog Diner is fresh. As a matter of fact, King Kold Meats delivers pretty much on a daily basis to ensure that the food is fresh and not frozen. The diner staff make all their dressings, and Chef Bill is known for his homemade seasonings and marinades. Community favorites include the Touchdown Big Breakfast, Country Fried Steak, and the Bulldog Burger.
Dinners will consist of homestyle meals, some of them having authentic southern flavor, seafood, pastas, sandwiches, and weekly specials. Chef Bill loves sautéed dishes, and there are several on the menu. I was fortunate enough to sample the Chicken Alfredo, which was delicious with chicken cooked to perfection. The Chicken Jambalaya Bowl offers a hearty helping of southern flavor that my daughter thoroughly enjoyed. My neighbor Scott Fogle raved about the Beef Tips and Shrimp, saying it had tremendous flavor. Finish off your meal with a Chocolate Mousse, which will send you straight to heaven.
Chef Bill is hoping to add a variety of dinner options with the community in mind. There are familiar favorites as well as dishes for the more elevated palette. The Bulldog Diner is offering budget-friendly selections and a kids' menu. They are adding diversity and ethnicity to the dinner foods, so there’s something for everyone. The chef would also like to bring back community events such as cruise-ins and live music in the future.
Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., and carryout is also offered. Check out the Bulldog Diner’s Facebook page for each week's Dinner Specials, along with more information about the diner.
