Davis sentenced to 33 years for fatally shooting father
A man convicted of fatally shooting his father was sentenced March 27 in a Miami County court to 33 years in prison before parole eligibility.
Daniel H. Davis Jr., 22, was indicted on charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and a firearm specification in the Dec. 30 shooting of his father, Daniel H. Davis Sr., 54, at his Monroe Concord Road home in Union Township.
Sheriff’s deputies said Davis Jr. called law enforcement to report the shooting, which occurred at the family home after Davis Jr. asked to talk to his father, then shot him in the head twice, according to the sheriff’s office and court reports.
Davis Jr. called 911, confessing and saying he had no remorse for what he had done, the reports said. He pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and the firearms specification in February. The other charges were dismissed.
He was sentenced in Common Pleas Court by Judge Stacy Wall, who noted that Davis Jr. had no prior criminal record. Davis Jr. also could have been sentenced to life without parole eligibility.
He will serve a mandatory three years for the gun specification followed by the 30 years. He will not be eligible for early release or credit for good behavior. He also was found to be a violent offender and ordered to file as a violent offender in the state.
