Library hosts paranormal guests

Many have a story or two of when they have encountered a haunting or an unusual spirit-like presence lurking in their life. Others have seen strange objects floating in the air or unexplainable instances. It’s a phenomenon that’s not few or far in between. Whether you’re nervous about otherworldly happenings or hear unusual creaking and whispers around the house, there's a safe place to discuss right in the heart of your hometown.

The Tipp City Library hosts a monthly group called APROH 51. Here, with group leader Penny Passon's warm and inviting personality, many community members can seek friendship and understanding in their experiences of paranormal happenings.

On December 28, 2024, APROH 51 invited a special guest to converse and explore the world of paranormal activity and ghost hunting. Darin Hough, the founder of his small business, Miami Valley Paranormal Services, presented a series of videos and demonstrated a variety of ghost-hunting tools that he uses in his day-to-day paranormal activities. Hough, a seasoned ghost hunter, shared his extensive history of ghost-related anecdotes, as well as actual video and audio footage of encounters with the deceased.

Although it seems straight out of a movie written by Spielberg, Darin's life has always been a little haunted. Unusual toys, noises, whispers, and sightings flooded his early years, but one instance in particular is what made him dedicate his time to ghost hunting. Darin described how he was doing his usual daily driving when he soon halted after seeing a man he was sure he had run over. After leaving his vehicle and looking around, he found nothing to prove that any collision had occurred. However, he did catch a glimpse of a ghostly, unscathed male figure fleeing the scene with a stovepipe top hat. Since this occurrence, Darin has been chasing ghosts and engaging in paranormal activity. Hough shared how he started a small group in 2006, using equipment he could find around the house.

Later on, he opened a ghost-hunting store in Springfield that has since been torn down. Now, Darin continues his paranormal journey using a variety of items, ranging from pendulums to advanced thermal equipment. He says, “It seems like ghost hunting could be the most boring thing in the world, but when you play back the evidence, that’s when things happen.”

Hough and his partner shared the exciting part of ghost hunting with APROH 51 and thrilled the group with videos of human-like figures, pictures of unexplainable blotches, and many audio files of whispers and voices appearing to be from the other side.

The group was both captivated and eager to learn more. Learning is ultimately what a library is for, and when APROH 51 invited Miami Valley Paranormal Services, they discovered a significant amount about all things supernatural. From Casper to Poltergeists to ET, if there’s something you’re afraid might not make sense to the people you're close to, your local library group is eager to listen. Darin and his services provided both a safe and entertaining space for all those who attended, leaving many members excited for another meeting.
