Area runners compete in county meet

Milton Union hosted the annual Miami County Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, and three teams in our coverage area competed for the top honors in the county.

In the girls race, Milton Union placed third overall with 112 points while Bethel was sixth scoring 121 and Tippecanoe was seventh accumulating 143. Many of the Red Devils runners were in Louisville on Saturday for a race, giving many of other Red Devil runners a chance to compete in the county race.

Bethel freshman Olivia Brumbaugh placed third in the girls county race and was the highest-placed freshman with a time of 20:11.8. Two other members of the Bees squad both finished inside the top 20: Alyssandra Periano placed eighth, finishing the race in 20:46.4, and Natalie Sonnanstine ran to a finish of 21:40.9, placing her 12th overall in the county.

Other times for the Bees included Taylor Kaeff with 26:54.6 (placing 61st) and Emma Berberich ran 31:18.3 (82nd).

Milton Union also had some top finishers. Aubree Bates placed fifth overall with a time of 20:46.4, as the freshman gained a top ten finish in her first county race. Sydnie Barlett also was a top ten finisher, placing ninth with 21:30.9.

Madalyn Korte ran 23:25.6 to finish 25th overall, Ameila Iddings landed 37th (24:22.1), Alaina Manning was 43rd (24:56.2), and Jessa Lightner also was a top 50 placer with a 25:31.6 to land 46th.

Lola Taylor ran 28:26.7 to finish 69th for Milton.

For the Tippecanoe Red Devils, they were led by Lucia Ranly, who placed sixth overall with a run of 20:56.7, Tipp’s only top ten finisher.

Kaylyn Schultz finished 28th in the county with a time of 23:36.8, Belle Stanford ran 24:05.2 to land 34th overall, while completing the top 50 included Aubrey Ernst (24:47.9, 41st), Hailee Cerda finished 44th (24:58.3).

Other Tipp times were Aubrey Bryson (26:13.4), Alaina Jacquemin (26:31.0), Audrey Jackson (26:39.2), Kaitlyn Hartke (27:45.2), Audrey Barga (28:31.9), Lindsey Osenko (28:42.8), Harleen Warraich (29:57.5), Madilyn Lieber (30:04.6), Tessa Riehle (32:26.7), and Gwen Bailey (30:32.2).

In the boys race, Milton Union placed second with 82 points, Tippecanoe was third scoring 91, and Bethel finished sixth with 135.

Colin Hinkelman captured the boys county championship for Milton Union with a 16:32.9 while Zak Klepinger placed fourth with a time of 17:15.7. Also placing top 20 for the Bulldogs was Andrew Oaks with a time of 18:14.3, placing him 17th overall.

Other top 50 runners for the Bulldogs include Jacob Grube (18:45.8, 29th), Chase Parsons (19:14.7, 38th), and Tyler Shoemaker (19:43.5).

For the Red Devils, Ben Pierson was their highest placer, finishing sixth overall with a 17:29.4, giving Tipp their lone top-ten finisher. Also placing 15th was Sam Stark, who ran 17:59.7, good enough for 15th overall.

Noah Heisey placed 21st running a time of 18:27.3, Mason Kinninger was 26th (18:34.8), Nathan Kollmeyer 28th (18:45.7), Connor Demange 30th (18:47.0), Rowan Allison 32nd (19:00.7), Kaiden Gambill 33rd (19:01.2), Henry McDaniel 40th (19:20.5), Jacob Farris 47th (19:39.7), and Liam Vonderheide was 49th (19:45.3).

Leading the way for the Bees in the boys race was Justin Brinson, who finished 12th with a time of 17:44.5, while his teammate Patrick Firstenberger was 14th running 17:55.5.

Freshman Michael Trussel was 25th finishing with a time of 18:31.9, Caleb Ratliff placed 50th overall with a time of 19:50.5, and Cullen Firstenberger ran a finish of 20:26.9 to land 67th. Rounding out the Bethel runners was Luke Klimkowski with a time of 23:17.1.
