Butler Township Trustees hold June 6 meeting on paving program

The Butler Township Trustees met on Thursday evening, June 6, and approved several asphalt and concrete repair and paving contracts for the 2024 calendar year, along with several other items. During the public comment period, several citizens expressed their frustration with the assessments being charged as part of the paving program.

Six resolutions were presented, and all were passed unanimously by the three trustees. These resolutions included:

  • Two resolutions involving the 2024 concrete repair and asphalt paving program, including the authorization of a contract with R.A. Miller Construction, who submitted a bid of just over $961,000 for the project. Staff had estimated the project would cost over $1.2 million. The second asphalt project resolution involved authorizing expenditures from the township’s American Rescue Plan Act fund to cover $250,000 of the cost of the projects.

  • A resolution to authorize the police chief to purchase and install Motorola In-Car Camera systems

  • A resolution to authorize the township administrator to re-enroll in the Ohio Worker’s Group Retro Rating Program

  • A resolution to provide for cooperation between and among the boards of several local governmental organizations in relation to a regional planning commission

  • A resolution to authorize the service department to dispose of 29 carts that had been abandoned by Sam’s Club

The city staff spoke next, and Services Manager Jeff Barnett said that their street sweeper was back in service after a $2,000 repair. Admin Erika Vogel reminded everyone that the Party in the Park event is still scheduled for October 5, but the Cruise-In currently scheduled for September 13 might be combined with that later event due to the construction taking place this year along Miller Lane.

Trustee Jackson reminded everyone about the upcoming Air Show and the improvements coming to Benchwood Station/the Miller Lane corridor. And during the public comment period, several citizens expressed their frustration with the assessments being charged as part of the paving program. Barnett asked the citizens to reach out to him next week for more information and follow-up.

The next meeting of the Trustees will be held on Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Hall located at 3780 Little York Road. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, visit https://butlertownship.com.
