MU Alumni: Where are they now?
Graduating five years ago with the class of 2019, Kyli Parsons has found success in the life she has been dreaming of achieving since high school.
Throughout her high school career, she was the class vice president, National Honor Society president, member of varsity M, freshman focus mentor, and involved in varsity cross country and track. After graduation, she planned to attend Miami University.
At Miami, Parsons chose to major in primary education with a minor in special education. While earning her degree, she also spent two years as a Resident Assistant (RA) on campus. She shares that it “helped me come out of my shell. I was tasked with making relationships with more than 30 residents.” Other duties she completed were hosting building-wide events and handling disciplinary actions.
Fast forward to her senior year when she began her student teaching. She said the skills she learned from her time as an RA helped her receive praise from her mentor teachers as she had the ability to “speak professionally, build relationships, and handle conflict in the classroom.” Parsons shares that student teaching was one of her most rewarding experiences and felt she could let her true self shine. She thanked her mentor teachers, who played a “huge role in where I ended up after graduation.” She graduated in May 2023 and took the stride for the next journey.
The most exciting part is that she secured a 4th-grade teaching position right after graduation. Parsons just completed her first-year teaching in the greater Cincinnati area. She claims she has “found a home in a wonderful district surrounded by administrators who have shared guidance, grace, and compassion” with her. She is pleased to return to the same job next school year with a new group of 4th graders!
