Good Shepherd Plarn group make sleeping mats
Contributed by Barbara Cecil
The Good Shepherd Plarn group meets on most Wednesday’s from 3:00 to 4:30ish at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1209 South Miami Street, West Milton, 937-698-5826. Coordinated by Judy Moncrief, twelve faithful ladies make sleeping mats out of plastic grocery bags. They have been distributed to the homeless in downtown Dayton since its inception. Currently the mats are being sent to St. Pat’s Soup Kitchen in Troy. The mats are also being shared with Bethany Shelter in Piqua. So far, they have provided approximately 2,000 mats.
This project started in 2014 and was inspired by a workshop held at Synod Assembly that same year. You do not need to know how to crochet to participate. Some folks fold plastic bags, some cut into strips, others loop the strips together and roll the plarn. Some crochet. It is a fun group, and they pray for each other on a regular basis. Please feel free to join them on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for all the plastic bags donated to this cause. Colors needed: gray, blue, brown.
Scriptural Prayer: Benevolent Father, thank you for your love, which is a wellspring of life to us all. Thank you for preserving the lives of the homeless. You are a shelter and strong tower for those who need refuge.
