Civil War Historian Visits the Optimists

Phil Spaugy, a Civil War historian with extensive knowledge of the battles, as well as weapons and the soldiers involved in that war, was the guest of the Tipp-Monroe Optimists on Saturday, November 16. Phil shared stories centered around Josephina Miller Rogers Slider, who became a friend of Union troops during the Gettysburg conflict by baking bread and sharing it with the soldiers.  She and her husband eventually moved to Troy in 1883, where she remained until her death in 1911.
