Breaking News - Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services rescue motorist stranded in high water on Tipp Canal Road
On 4-6-25 at 9:07 AM, Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services (TCFES) responded to Tipp-Canal Road near Tipp City Sportsman Club, for a report of a motorist stranded in high water. The person in the car called 911. The incident is located just West of the Great Miami River and the Great Miami River Recreational Trail.
Upon arrival Engine 32 found three passengers stranded with two on top of the vehicle and one standing in three feet deep moving water approximately a third of a mile from dry road. Engine 32 set incident command and crews performed a wading rescue to remove the victims from the flooded area. There was water in the car. The victims were stable and able to follow all commands. The victims were dressed out in life jackets and removed from the vehicle. A father, and mother waded back to dry ground in a rescue formation with the firefighters. The child victim was removed on the shoulders of a rescuer. The adult male was transported by the ambulance crew. The mother and daughter were assessed and observed. The mother refused treatment, other than observation. Medic 32 transported the mother and daughter to UVMC to be reunited with the father. The car was left where it was stopped until the water recedes.
Mutual aid was dispatched. HHFD, Butler TWP FD and Troy FD Boat 11 and crews responded to the scene. Tipp City PD and Miami County Sheriff’s Department were both on scene to assist.
The driver drove around a road closed sign at Tipp Canal. Do not attempt to drive through water on flooded road ways. Obey all road closed signs due to high water. The water is moving and has the ability to cause serious injuries up to death. The moving water can also cause the car to float with the current.
No injuries were reported at the time of the water rescue by crews. Crews were on the scene for approximately 1.25 hours.
