Bates, Brumbaugh finish first at Piqua Invitational

On April 4, the track team traveled to Piqua to compete in the annual Piqua High School Invitational. 

Many athletes walked away with wins and others at the top of their events. 

In the girls 4x800 meter relay, the team consisting of Sydnie Bartlett, Aubree Bates, Amelia Iddings, and Madalyn Korte took first place with a time of 10:49.29. 

The boys 4x800 meter relay team took sixth place. Runners in this event included Colin Hinkelman, Chase Parsons, Andrew Oaks, and Carter Forrest.

Kate Copp finished in third place overall for the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.47 seconds and teammate Sophie Layman finished in seventh. 

In the boys 110-meter hurdles, Mason Quesinberry finished in eighth and Will Johns in ninth. 

In the 100-meter dash, freshman Bailie Wolfe placed sixth with a time of 13.91 seconds. 

On the boys side of the 100-meter dash, Payton Mayfield placed fourth with a time of 11.71. 

The girls 4x200 meter relay team which consisted of Copp, Wolfe, Layman, and Autumn Brazie finished in fifth place overall in a time of 2:00.22.

The boys 4x200 meter relay team also finished in fifth. Runners for this sprinting event included Johns, Sam Milnickel, Charlie Lane and Jaxon Strickland. 

Bates competed in the 1600-meter run and finished in first overall. She ran this in a time of 6:06.59. 

In the boys 1600-meter run, Hinkelman took a close second place running the mile in a time of 4:50.08 in comparison to the winning time which was 4:49.50. Senior Liam Hartley also competed in this event running a time of 5:16.05 for a seventh place finish. 

The boys 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Lane, Mayfield, Strickland and Levi Tracy placed fourth with a time of 46.35 seconds. 

As for the 300-meter hurdles, Copp also placed third in this event with a time of 53.00 seconds and Layman finished in seventh with a time of 56.09 seconds. 

Quesinberry placed fifth in the boys 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.77 seconds.

Senior Jenna Brumbaugh took a first place finish in the 800-meter dash by 10 seconds. She finished in a time of 2:27.54. Bartlett also competed and finished in fifth place with a time of 2:47.19. 

Hinkelman also competed in the 800-meter dash and finished in third with a time of 2:13.84. Forrest finished in eighth with a time of 2:19.89.

In the 3200-meter run, Korte placed third running a time of 14:27.16. 

On the boys side, Oaks placed sixth in a time of 11:00.30 and Parsons placed seventh with a time of 11:45.46. 

The girls 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Bartlett, Brumbaugh, Bates, and Brazie finished in second place with a time of 4:29.56. 

The boys 4x400 included Forrest, Lane, Milnickel, and Tracy and they placed fifth overall with a time of 3:48.67. 

In the field events, specifically boys high jump, Johns placed second after jumping a height of 5’6”. 

In the girls long jump, Brumbaugh placed third jumping a distance of 15’ 6 ¼’. And in the boys long jump, Mayfield placed fourth jumping a distance of 19’ 1”. 

And finally, in the boys pole vault, Milnickel placed third vaulting a height of 12’ 6”. 

The track team’s next meets will include the Miami East Invitational which will have occurred on April 10, and following that will be the Butler Invitational on April 18.
