Basketball Finishes at Milton

By: Ty Parsons

Milton-Union’s boys’ basketball team completes their season while select wrestlers are set to

continue into March.

The basketball team started their tournament play on Feb. 21 against Arcanum. Despite losing

to them earlier in the season, the ‘dogs took the win 50-47.

Senior Titus Copp led the team with 20 points, five assists and four steals. Levi Brumbaugh

added 10 points and Kimmel with nine and six rebounds.

A few days later, on Feb. 25, the team was ready to compete in the District Semi-Finals. They

were set to play against an impressive Versailles team.

Milton-Union lost this game 67-38, ultimately ending their season.

Hunter Fraley led for the Bulldogs with 11 points, Copp with eight points and four assists and

Brumbaugh with seven points and five assists.

The team finished their season with an overall record of 6-18 (4-10 TRC.)

They also are losing seven seniors: Logan Keys, William Johns, Carson Lavy, Jacob Grube,

Tyler Combs, Kimmel and Copp.

However, following their loss, Kimmel was named a District 9 First Team Player.

On the wrestling side, their post-season competition is at full force.

They traveled to Versailles on Feb. 22 to compete in the Division 3 Sectional Tournament.

Payton Mayfield (132) placed third. He went 3-1 with three tech falls.

Ian Coffey (138) placed second. Coffey went 3-1 with one pin and one tech fall. He was able to

come back from being down 8-2 to winning 9-8.

Seth Lowry (144) and Eli Deeter (285) both placed fourth.

Lowry went 4-2 with two pins and two tech falls and Deeter was 3-2 with three pins.

This means that only four of the wrestlers performed well enough to continue on with their

season and qualify for the District Tournament. Junior Kayla Gedeon took fifth place at the girls’ sectional wrestling tournament at Eaton High

School. This is a historic achievement for Milton-Union as this was the first time a girl has placed at

sectionals. This means she has qualified for Districts as an alternate.
