Beekeeping display set at the Milton-Union Public Library
During the month of February, the McCarroll sisters, Paisley and Lola, have a beekeeping exhibit on display. After finding a swarm of feral honeybees in a cedar tree, the duo has been beekeeping for two years. They went out on a limb and tried something new. Last year, they both received scholarships from the Ohio State Beekeeping Association. The girls have gained a wealth of knowledge on the subject through hands-on education, time spent with their mentor, and hours invested in reading.
On February 20 at 6:30 p.m., they will share at the Hayner Cultural Center in Troy, along with their mentor at the West Central Ohio Beekeeping Association meeting. All interested in beekeeping and new beekeepers are welcome to attend the free event. Topics will include swarm trapping, sustainable beekeeping, and products made from the hive.
Paisley and Lola are homeschooled and tend their numerous hives right here in West Milton. Their honey and handmade honey soaps and various products are available at the Wertz Variety Store in West Milton, as well as a little shop they set up at home.
