Tipp City Fire & EMS respond to DAP fire
On Thursday night, February 19 at 8:45 p.m., Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services (TCFES) responded to 875 N. Third St., for a report of a fire with fire alarm. Upon arrival crews located flames and smoke showing from the Gas House. The fire sprinkler systems were activated and suppressed the fire. Actions by plant personnel and fire crews extinguished the fire. Plant personnel were evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The fire did not spread beyond the gas house. The plant was conducting normal operations at the time of the incident. The fire was under control quickly. The “gas house” is a portion of the process the fills aerosol cans with non-odorized LPG, liquid propane gas.
Upon arrival Engine 32 found smoke conditions in the mechanical area of the plant. Battalion 32 set incident command and crews performed fire attack and search in quick succession.
Mutual aid was dispatched per the standard response commercial structure fire response. West Milton, Vandalia, Huber Heights (ladder), and Bethel all responded with crews. Plant personnel were on the scene to secure the electric, gas and sprinkler system services inside and diagnose the problem. The plant is on a fire watch due to the sprinkler systems being shut off.
The fire cause is undetermined at this time. The area of origin is the gas house production line. Damages are not estimated at this time. The plant stopped production during the time that fire crews were on scene. The fire investigation will reconvene in the morning with fire and plant personnel
No injuries were reported at the time of the fire-by-fire crews or the facility personnel. Crews were on the scene for approximately 1.5 hours.
