Tipp City Council met to discuss new City Manager
The Tipp City Council met on Monday, May 6, and began with an Executive Session focused on selecting a new City Manager. The current City Manager, Tim Eggleston, will be retiring in June.
Board of Education voted to postpone staff reductions
At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, April 23, board members voted, in an emotional atmosphere, to table (postpone) a request to cut administrator and non-teacher positions from the school district’s staff. However, a proposed reduction of 18.5 teachers lurked in the background for future board meetings. The district was operating at a $3.5M deficit for the fiscal school year.
Planning began on new PK-8 building
Superintendent Aaron Moran, with Martin English and others, met with citizens at L.T. Ball Intermediate School to begin planning for the student-centered functions and features that will be built into the new PK-8 building. Tipp voters passed a bond issue for the building’s cost in November 2023.
Local CISV chapter rebuilding after COVID
For CISV, the mission is all about peace education. An international student exchange program, CISV is designed to build children’s understanding of global cultures.
Tipp City Chamber celebrated grand opening of Cross Creek Hydroponics
The Tipp City Chamber of Commerce proudly announced the ribbon cutting ceremony held on Friday, April 19, to celebrate the grand opening of Cross Creek Hydroponics. Cross Creek Hydroponics, a 501c3 nonprofit education initiative, is dedicated to assisting individuals and families in overcoming food insecurities within their homes and communities.
Needy Basket partnered with Meijer to feed hungry families
A partnership with Meijer to provide much-needed relief to local families facing food insecurity through the retailer’s customer-driven hunger relief program, Simply Give.
Taste of Tipp delighted over 600 attendees
The aroma of delectable dishes filled the air as Tipp City came alive with the Taste of Tipp 2024 event, held on May 2 at the Tipp Center, located on North Third. This annual culinary extravaganza was a resounding success, drawing in over 600 attendees eager to indulge in the flavors of the local community.
Annual Law Enforcement Memorial held at Courthouse Plaza
Miami County said “thank you” to its fallen police officers and those who serve daily during the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service held May 1 at the county Courthouse Plaza. The ceremony included prayers, a poem, music, and comments on service and sacrifice by those who serve and their families.
Miami County Mental Health Court celebrated first graduate
For Scott, the Miami County Mental Health Court was literally a lifesaver. A Piqua resident, Scott entered the new program in June 2022, its first month of operations in the county.
Former substitute teacher sentenced for explicit photo
Former Tippecanoe High School substitute teacher James E. Hoke, 72, pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile and was sentenced to a suspended jail term and a fine. Hoke, a Tipp City resident, made the plea and was sentenced May 2 in Miami County Municipal Court.
Tipp football hosted college showcase
Over 40 college coaches attended the third-annual Miami Valley League (MVL) Football College Showcase Day at Tipp Park last Thursday morning, giving Red Devils athletes a chance to shine in front of college football coaches.
Good Shepherd Plarn group made sleeping mats
The Good Shepherd Plarn group meets most Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30ish at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1209 South Miami Street, West Milton, 937-698-5826. Coordinated by Judy Moncrief, twelve faithful ladies make sleeping mats from plastic grocery bags.
Tipp’s Jason Salyer wins back-to-back Flying Pig Marathons
Tipp City’s Jason Salyer won his second straight Flying Pig Marathon in what was reported as hot and humid conditions Sunday in Cincinnati. The 33-year-old’s winning time was 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 1 second. Salyer, who runs for Dayton Track Club, competed in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando in February.
Milton School custodian sued village, police over dismissed rape case
Jerry North, the West Milton man accused last year of rape of a child while custodian at Mil ton Union Elementary School before the boy later recanted, has filed a civil lawsuit against police and others in U.S. District Court in Dayton.
City holds open house for Water/Wastewater Building
On Wednesday, May 8, the City of Tipp City hosted an Open House for the new Water/Wastewater Building at 527 S. First Street, Tipp City.
Marilynn Rowe on retirement and her future
Anyone who has entered the front office of Tippecanoe High School in the past decade has met Marilynn Rowe. As the head secretary of the high school, Rowe has been involved in the lives of thousands of students and parents over the past eleven years and has worked in the district for even longer.
Chris Swank wins Tipp Seniors chili cook-off
At the Tipp City Seniors carry-in lunch, there was a chili cook-off. Four members cooked chili, and the other members voted. Chris Swank was the winner in a very close race. After lunch, there was some rousing fun as three couples played the “Oldly Wed Game!”
Transportation problems plagued 8th grade Washington, DC, trip
Eighth-grade students from Tipp City schools were delayed in their return home from a trip to Washington, D.C., due to transportation problems. District Superintendent Aaron Moran said about 130 students and chaperones were on the trip.
Downtown parking lot closed for construction
The parking lot at Tipp City Global Methodist Church, 8 W. Main St., will be undergoing a transformation in the near future. Beginning the week of June 3rd, the parking lot and front entrance will be closed as construction is set to start that week. The doors on Dow Street will be used as the main entrance.
Major battery storage project announced for Vandalia
Regulators for the State of Ohio have given the green light for a massive new power storage site in Vandalia. The project calls for an 85-megawatt battery energy storage facility to be built on 7.3 acres within a 19-acre parcel of land just west of the Vandalia Rentals location on Engle Road.

Ahead of the high school prom, the Downtown Tipp City Partnership (DTCP), Tipp City Chamber of Commerce, and downtown merchants and residents, hosted a spectacular prom photoshoot event in the heart of the historic downtown.
