Catch up with Milton-Union’s Winter Sports
With three new wins tacked on to their record, the Lady Bulldogs basketball team has got their groove back.
Starting their comeback with a win against inner conference team Riverside on January 9, the ‘dogs came out victorious, 52-42. Per usual, the team was led by senior Jenna Brumbaugh with her 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. Michaela Firks added 15 important points as well as 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Other key players that contributed to this win were Kate Copp with 10 points and Addi Case with 9. This win gave the girls their momentum back and allowed two more wins to follow.
A big win over Franklin-Monroe came next on January 13 with a score of 56-26. The scorers for Milton included Brumbaugh with 21, Riley Shaw with 10, Copp with 9, Case with 9, Sophie Layman with 4, and Mackenzie Shortridge with 2. Although this game seemed to be an easy win, another conference matchup was approaching soon.
On January 16, the team won 39-24 over Troy Christian. Brumbaugh led once again with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Case added 11 points, Copp 8, and Layman 5. This third straight win took the team to 11-2 (6-2 Three Rivers Conference.)
The boys basketball team is still struggling to find their footing this season but were able to add another win to their record.
The team was defeated by Brookville (62-40) on January 11, but four days later snagged a win against conference team Riverside. They won by over 20 points with a score of 64-41. Senior Wyatt Kimmel led with 21 points, and Titus Copp and Levi Brumbaugh both added 11 points. This put their record at 2-9.
Unfortunately, the team was defeated on January 17 by Lehman Catholic 48-29 and on January 21 by Troy Christian, 51-31. These losses brought their record down to 2-11.
The wrestling team competed in a tri-match which included Piqua and Stebbins. The team was able to get a 42-36 win over Piqua, but in the final match the Indians took down Milton, 54-18. The team is struggling while 3 wrestlers are out due to injuries, but that didn’t stop them against Stebbins.
The ‘dogs stepped out with an 18-0 lead over their opponent. Winning by a pin were Payton Mayfield (138), Ian Coffee (144), Ray Kline (165), and Chase Hamann (190). With that, Jacob Lightner (120), Chase Roy (132), and Eli Deeter (285) all won through a forfeit.
