Between my daughters, niece and nephew, I think the post office does a good business! The four cousins eagerly wait for snail mail to arrive in their mailboxes. Despite seeing each other at least once or twice a week and being less than a ten-minute drive from one another, these pen pals keep their postmasters busy. They send more than just notes; they include stickers, bookmarks, drawings, bracelets and more. 

The surprises are endless. You might think that by seeing each other so often and living close by, they might tire of penning back and forth, but they don’t. This week, when the mail came, my daughters saw that the envelope was from their cousins. They tore it open as if it were the first time they had received mail. Smiles and laughter spilled out, along with some confetti. Often, a piece of mail prompts a phone call between them, on their landline telephones of course. The excitement doesn’t fade, and the love of letter writing continues to flourish. 

Postage is at an all-time high, but the investment in their relationship is priceless. The four cousins speak their own language. They take the time to invest in one another’s interests. Seeing this relationship sealed with a stamp of love and commitment reminded me of our relationship with Christ. The Lord is eager to hear from us. He wants to listen to our pleas for help, our desire for growth, and our prayers for mercy. He waits by the mailbox in anticipation for the delivery. 

God never gets tired of our prayers. Nothing is too big or too small for our God. It’s a privilege to go to God in prayer. Never tire of the opportunity to talk to God. Be still and sit in His presence. Speak out loud, quietly, or through pen and paper. God is writing your story, and He is waiting anxiously by the mailbox for your package of prayer. Let’s treat each encounter as if it’s our first time experiencing God’s goodness. 

God wants to be our pen pal. He yearns to receive from us and deliver to us as well.  The cost of following Jesus is expensive, more than a postage stamp, but the reward is sent in a priority parcel. Stick with God, you’ll go places.
