Boys Cross Country finish as Runners-Up at Covington Invite

On August 31, the Milton-Union cross country teams competed at the annual Covington Buccaneer FOE 3998 Invitational. The team competes here every year, sometimes twice, and it always proves to be a great course for the Bulldogs!

The boys team finished in second place behind a talented Russia team. Even with this being a hilly course, many of the boys improved their times from the previous race, the Bob Schul Invitational, or ran within seconds of it. Colin Hinkelman finished in 2nd place for the ‘dogs with a time of 16:48.8. Following Hinkelman was Zak Klepinger, who finished in 8th with a time of 17:45.3, Andrew Oaks in 12th at 18:13.0, Chase Parsons in 17th at 18:40.7, Jacob Grube in 20th at 18:50.8, and Tyler Shoemaker in 38th at 19:53.1.

The girls’ side of the team also had a great day! Freshman Aubrey Bates finished in 4th place with a time of 21:42.2. This is almost a 20-second time improvement from her first high school 5k at the Bob Schul Invitational. Freshman Madelyn Korte was next behind Bates in 22nd place with a time of 23:44.6. Sophomore Sydnie Barlett was not far behind with a finish in 23rd place and a time of 23:46.7. Freshman Amelia Iddings was next for the Bulldogs, finishing the race in 35th place with a time of 25:17.4. Junior Alaina Manning finished right behind Iddings in 36th place with a time of 25:24.9. The team finished in 4th overall behind Greenon, Miami East (conference team), and Covington (conference team).
