Milton-Union sports are in full swing

The fall sports season is heating up for the Bulldogs. Many teams have started their seasons with wins, new personal bests, and learning opportunities. We will cover the first few weeks (August 1-22) of this exciting time.

The girls’ golf team competed in their first league match in early August. They defeated Lehman Catholic, and the scores are as follows:

Addison Case: 51

Emersyn Fresithler: 55

Scarlet Crowe: 64

Evie Dehus: 72

On the boys side, Lehman Catholic defeated Milton 166-183. But on a positive note, 183 was the lowest score of the year for the Dogs at the time. The scores are as follows:

Hunter Fraley: 42 (personal best)

Keaton Jones: 45

Austin Hodkin: 46

William Coate: 50

And they keep getting better. The team next matched up against Bethel. Case was the medalist with a 44, and Fresithler recorded her first birdie of the season on the par 3 second hole. At this point, the girls advanced to 2-0 in league play. 

The boys’ team lost to Miami East 177-194, Covington 173-195, and Bethel 159-193. The scores for the matches are as follows:

Coate: 47 (personal best)

In their most recent match, the girls’ took a loss to Arcanum. Dehus shot her personal best with a 58, and their record drops to 2-1 overall, 2-0 in conference. The other scores are as follows:

Freisthler: 60

The cross country team competed in their first race at Lost Creek Reserve in Troy. On the girls side, freshman Aubrey Bates finished in 4th place (12:35.2), Sydnie Bartlett finished in 19th place (14:00.7), Madelyn Korte finished in 27th place (14:23.6), Jessa Lightner in 35th (14:53.2), Amelia Iddings in 44th (15:16.6), Alaina Manning in 47th (15:25.4), and Lola Taylor in 76th (17:27.6). This was an impressive first race for a team with many young runners.

On the boys’ side, Colin Hinkelman finished in 8th (9:53.3), Zak Klepinger in 30th (10:33.4), Andrew Oaks in 37th (10:48.4), Jacob Grube in 40th (10:53.9), Chase Parsons in 42nd (10:57.4), Tyler Shoemaker in in 61st (11:20.1), and Liam Hartley in 79th (11:35.5). The boys also had an impressive first race coming off their extensive and successful season from last fall.

The boys soccer team took a win over Lehman Catholic in their season opener 6-2. Mason Quesinberry was named “Dog of the Match” due to his incredible performance scoring 4 goals and adding 1 assist. 

As for the sports that don’t have as much released information and stats:

·         The football team played in a scrimmage against Brookville, and took a loss. 

·         The girls’ soccer team opened up their season at home against Greenview, but took a 5-1 loss.

·         The volleyball team started their season off with a win on the road over Piqua! The matches finished at 25-19, 27-25, 21-25, and 25-21. They hosted a match at home against Twin Valley South and snagged the win 3-0.
