Tipp rolls past Stebbins in girls soccer MVL contest
It was over quick as the Tippecanoe girls soccer team cruised to another Miami Valley League (MVL) win last week, blasting Stebbins 9-0 to improve to 4-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in the league. This win coming after a tough 1-1 tie against Indian Hill after deadline last week.
“We came out really strong and scored seven of our eight goals in the first half, and we have been stressing the importance of a clean sheet as well,” Tipp coach Brent Palmer said.
Tipp spread the scoring around with eight different goals from eight players, something Palmer said is a positive for this team.
“These girls celebrate each other’s successes and not prioritize what they want over what the team needs,” Palmer said. “Credit to Stebbins, they were playing hard for all 80 minutes and they caught us sleeping a couple of times. We got lucky, but it comes down to our leaders on the field; they are an extension of the coaching staff keeping the girls focused.”
Kendall Davis started the scoring less than a minute into the game, scoring an unassisted goal with 39:19 left, which quickly opened the floodgates for the Red Devils.
Four minutes later, they struck again when Kaylee Dennison put one past the Stebbins keeper and with 35:27 left in the half, it was 2-0.
Abbey Unger put the third goal on the board at 34:25 to push the lead to 3-0. Four minutes later, it became 4-0 when Mady Turner scored in the box.
The onslaught continued throughout the half. With 19:51 left in the half, Georgia Adkins slid one through the keeper with an assist from Marin Dakin to take the Tipp lead to 5-0.
The running clock rule took effect with 18:32 left in the half when Isabelle Mahl scored to make it 6-0, then Tipp closed out the first half scoring when Maddie Hook scored with 7:38 left to send the Red Devils into the break leading 7-0.
Brooke Shafer rounded out the scoring in the second half when she found the net with 37:29 left in the game.
*Tipp also tied Indian Hill 1-1 as Shafer scored the lone goal for the Red Devils before Tipp gave up the tying goal a short time later.
