Tipp wins 50th consecutive MVL soccer match
The winning streak continues for the Tippecanoe boys soccer team in a big way.
Tipp put together a solid shutout performance last week, defeating Fairborn 8-0 at Tipp Park to win their 50th consecutive Miami Valley League game. They have also gone 91 consecutive conference games with either a win or a tie.
“In the last couple of games, we have gotten out to a fast start that we are not known for this year,” Tipp coach Joel Slyman said. “It is good to see guys have a sense of urgency. We jumped on them early and didn’t want to give Fairborn any momentum or hope, and we eliminated that hope.”
Tipp scored ten minutes into the game when Landon Haas scored through the defenders in the box to give Tipp a quick 1-0 lead. The Red Devils put a lot of pressure on the Fairborn defenders in the opening ten minutes before breaking through.
Dom Mendiola made it 2-0, ripping a shot from 20 yards out with 28:32 left in the first half, then Maddox Robinson added a pair of goals to end the half. He scored with 19:26 left off a pass from Cam Smith, then James Miller assisted Robinson to make it 4-0 at the half.
Scoring in the second half for Tipp were Smith, Miller, Colin Turner and AJ Jergens with assists coming from Mendiola, Haas, Collin Snyder, and Beckett Trzeciak.
“We are trending in the right direction, unbeaten in six games, and peaking heading into October,” Slyman said. “We have one game this week and one next week, and we need to execute and work hard in practice. Since the opportunities are not happening every day, we need to take advantage of them. We should get some nice tests on the road, heading into the tournament seeding.”
Tipp used many players in the big win, and Slyman said it was good to get many players involved in the victory.
“We had contributions from guys who don’t necessarily get a lot of stats,” he said. “It was good to see Miller score tonight and Turner knocking on the door all night. We want to see good goals regardless of who you play against. We had that in the second half.”
Tipp played Piqua last night and will travel to Sidney next Tuesday for their next game.
