Tipp blasts Green Wave 72-7 to move to 3-0

Tippecanoe used all phases of the game to dominate Greenville last Friday night 72-7 in the first game back in the Green Wave home football stadium since the devastating tornado destroyed the Greenville Park including the stadium back in the spring.

The Red Devils build an insurmountable lead in the opening half and enjoyed a running clock in the entire second half to improve to 3-0 on the season.

“I want perfection and our kids do too, and we had a little breakdown with their long touchdown, but our kids came in and did what they had to do,” Tipp coach Matt Burgbacher said. “They had a job to do and they did it. You can’t ask for anything more.”

Tipp scored on their opening possession of the game, moving the ball inside the Greenville 15-yard-line where Larkin Thomas connected on a 12-yard scoring pass to Will Strong, giving the Red Devils the quick lead just three minutes into the game.

After forcing Greenville to punt on their next possession, it was Strong who bolted 57 yards for the score.

Thomas then connected with Jackson Davis on a 20-yard pass with 3:46 left in the first period, pushing the Tipp lead to 21-0.

A huge sack from Ronin LeBreck set up the next Tipp score, a six-yard scoring pass from Thomas to Davis, and Tipp was in total control, leading 28-0 leading to the second period.

Greenville struck with a long pass on the first play of the second period to give Greenville their only points of the game.

Not to be outdone, Davis took the ensuing kickoff and raced 95 yards for another Tipp score with 11:35 left in the half, and it was 35-7 Red Devils.

Tipp wasn’t done as Xavier Melton scored from three yards out to make it 42-7, then added another short scoring strike when Melton scored again to push the lead to 49-7. The Red Devils rounded out the scoring on a 30-yard pass from Thomas to Strong, giving Tipp a 56-7 lead at the half.

Cam Hughes scored in the third period for Tipp and, following a safety, Drew Husic rounded out the scoring with a short run.

“We have four big weeks ahead of us, and that is going to tell us what kind of season we are going to have,” Burgbacher said. “We have to get ready for Piqua. I don’t care what record they have, it’s still Piqua.”
