Hanrahan continues her wrestling success

When Emma Hanrahan walked off the podium as a state champion back in the winter, the Tippecanoe grad was far from done as far as competing against the top competition this year. The summer has provided some stiff competition for Hanrahan as she has competed against some of the top female wrestlers from around the country.

Hanrahan returned home last week from the team nationals, where she competed as a member of Team Ohio, and she can add another honor to her resume as she was named an All-American for Greco, where she placed sixth overall representing Ohio in the 135-pound weight class. She is the first female All-American in Tippecanoe history.

“Overall, Team Ohio had a really good performance at national duals,” Hanrahan said. “We ended up competing really well, fighting hard in freestyle, but sadly not placing. However, we ended up placing sixth in the nation for Greco and earning all of us All-American status.”

The team also ended up finishing 13th overall in Freestyle with Hanrahan again competing as the 135-pound rep for Ohio.

“Overall, I’m really proud of my performance,” she said. “I think I ended up going 6-2 in freestyle and 4-4 in Greco. I competed against many tough competitors and I’m proud of my record there.”

“My summer performance has been pretty great. I won back-to-back freestyle state titles, and back-to-back Greco state titles. I also won multiple big tournaments such as Wrestle against Autism and the Splatola Classic, and lastly, placing sixth at national duals for Greco.”

Her All-American status is something she takes high pride in as she continues her quest for the ultimate prize.

“Being an All-American is a great experience because it means that I'm getting closer to my goal. I see becoming an All-American as a stepping stone to get closer to my main goal of winning an individual national title.”

Next up for Hanrahan is a trip out west as she will compete in the Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota.

“I expect myself to be on the podium and maybe even fighting for a national title,” she said. “I’ve been training nonstop since the season ended to get me to this point where I’m ready to compete. My thought process is to get my mind right to win.”
