Brannan ready for his biggest season

Bethel senior Remi Brannan had an outstanding football season last year for the Bethel Bees. Despite a rough 2-8 record that saw the Bees land seventh in the Three Rives Conference, the all-conference player is confident that when things kick off in August, the Bees will be refocused and ready to play for each other to turn things around to a successful season.

“I am hoping for my team to be healthy year long,” Brannan said. “I think I can speak for the whole team; we are excited for this year, and I know we have what it takes to compete for the TRC championship. We have to play for each other, and no one is worrying about their own personal stats. I think if we do that and keep buying into the program while working hard and being coachable, we are the only ones that can get in our way of having a winning season. I think the only way my team and I can accomplish these goals is to play for each other and as one, and not let negative outside noise affect us.”

Despite the record, Brannan put together a solid season with a team-high 52 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He was also named first-team all-conference by the coaches and wants to build on that during the upcoming fall.

“I think getting that first-team award last year has set the tone for pushing myself to have bigger and better goals for this year, but that comes with a bigger role for me, so I know I have to set the example for my teammates making sure we all are working hard,” he said. “I would like to make first team again even on both sides this year, and hopefully with more of my teammates. We want to win the TRC and reach the playoffs.”

He has taken this offseason very seriously and is doing what it takes to achieve his goals, including a lot of hard work.

“Some of the big things I've been working on this summer is working with Coach Dre, our head coach to get better for both sides of the football and small details, and be a better leader while setting the example,” Brannan said. “Our workouts have been going really well, fast moving and pushing each other. We all have been working really hard. It's a good feeling, and I like the direction we are going.”

“I have also been attending some football camps to improve my skills as well as get the attention of college coaches. Another big part I’ve been focusing on most this summer is having a meal plan my mom helps me with. I have made this a priority so I can keep my body healthy and 100% for the upcoming season and play at the highest level every game this year.”

Brannan also participates in wrestling and track and plans to return for his senior season.

“I plan to try to break our school record in the shot put, which is currently 48 '8", and I threw for 47' 8" last season,” he said. “What else I want to achieve is to make it to state in wrestling and track. I was an alternate for districts in wrestling at 215 weight class my first time ever wrestling, and I made it to regionals in shot put.”

Brannan plans to play football in college and has been to numerous campuses this summer.
