Board of Education to let 12 teachers go in effort to lower operating deficits

Tipp City’s Board of Education is set to RIF (Reduction in Force) twelve (12) teachers at their Work Session this coming Tuesday, June 4th, at 6:00 p.m. at L.T. Ball Elementary School.

Treasurer Dave Stevens reported at last month’s regular Board meeting that the Tipp school district’s deficit is over $2M for this past school year, and he projects that deficit to reach $6.7M by 2028 if no actions are taken. The Tipp City Education Association (TCEA) teachers’ union has claimed in the past that there are other ways besides RIFing teachers and/or administrative staff to reduce the operating deficit. Superintendent Aaron Moran and Treasurer Dave Stevens disagree, arguing that 80% of the schools’ total operating expense is teachers and staff, so that’s where a large portion of the reduction must occur.
