Tipp City Council continues discussions to select new city manager

The Tipp City Council met on Monday, May 6, and began with an Executive Session focused on selecting a new City Manager (current City Manager Tim Eggleston is retiring in June).

After the Executive Session, Council members attended an informal Work Session where they were scheduled to discuss four topics, but ran out of time reviewing transition plans in preparation for City Manager Tim Eggleston’s retirement. Many subjects were discussed, but the focus was whether and/or when Tipp City might decide to expand westward. Eggleston suggested, after discussing numerous issues, that he thought it would take at least two years of planning and discussion before any concrete plans could be developed.

The regular Council meeting began with two proclamations, read and presented by Mayor Logan Rogers:

·         Proclaim May 5-11, 2024 as “Drinking Water Week” in Tipp City.

·         Proclaim May 12-18, 2024 as “Police Week” in Tipp City (which is also National Police Week). The proclamation was presented to Police Chief Greg Adkins.

Council then:

·         Passed, permanently, an Ordinance to require a majority vote (4 of 7) for amending or rejecting Planning Board recommendations, rather than requiring the previous supermajority (5 of 7) vote.

·         Passed a Resolution to authorize the City Manager to purchase deicing salt from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Cooperative Purchasing Program.

·         Heard the first reading of an Ordinance to change the zoning at 4155 Peters Road (home of a future electric substation) from Conservative District (CD) Interim to Conservative District (CD).

·         Passed a motion to repeal a request for a public hearing on the issuance of a new C2 liquor license to Dolgen Midwest LLC (doing business as Dollar General Store 20636) at 3285 S. 25A, then passed a second motion to not request a public hearing.

·         Heard City Manager Tim Eggleton propose the construction of a free-to-the-public Outdoor Fitness Court in Tipp City, as part of the 2024 National Fitness Campaign. The project would cost $273,000. Tipp City had allocated money for the project in the 2024 capital budget and applied for a $81,900 grant through UVMC, but the grant could fall through, requiring additional monies through private donations and/or other sources. Council may vote on a Resolution for the Outdoor Fitness Court at the next meeting.
