Several achievements from hardworking students recognized by Vandalia BOE

The Vandalia Butler Board of Education (BOE) recognized the achievements of several students in their April 16th meeting.

The high school wrestling team saw several state qualifiers in Jace Love, Cooper Pion, Jadon Gyan, and James Hodge. Jadon Gyan was also recognized as MVL Wrestler of the Year.

The girls bowling team qualified for state and placed 12th at the state competition. This placement comes with more than 190 teams competing. The team consisted of Ashlin Conley, Sage Malott, Kaylee Bays, Jenna Hochwalt, Jolene Powers, Lauren Seelbaugh, Mary Williams, and Olivia Williams.

The boys swimming team sent their 400-meter free relay to state as well, where they placed 14th. Included on the team were Drake Rinesmith, Dayne Schlagetter, Korey Snyder, Alex Hale, and Brendan Swinderman.

Mark Peck was also recognized by the board as the MVL Coach of the Year. The wrestling coach has won nine MVL Championships in a row, won Sectional Champions, and had two state placers at this year’s state championship in the forms of Jace Love and Cooper Pion, who both placed 8th in their weight divisions.

The board also approved the change of the last day of school for their preschool-8 students for the 2023-2024 school year. These students will now be released on May 17, while the high school will remain in session until May 22. The board also approved the use of several new media items in the elementary schools.

The Personal Consent Agenda for the district was also approved, which included the recognition of retirement of Sheila Dean and Therese Garison and the sign on of substitute staff for the upcoming school year.

The Vandalia Butler BOE welcomes public comments in their meetings, and minutes and agendas can be found at www.vbcsd.com.
