Taking Care of our Bees

In January, the Miami County Commissioners re-appointed Jim Lyons to serve as the 2024 Miami County Apiarist. What’s an apiarist? They monitor beehives across Miami County and work with beekeepers to keep bees required for pollination disease and pest-free. This is important because honeybees are crucial to our food supply. They pollinate more than 100 of the crops we eat, including vegetables, berries, citrus, melons, and nuts.

Requests for Annexation

In January, the Commissioners recorded a request asking for the annexation of a portion of Bethel Township (296.236 acres +/-) to the City of Huber Heights. The request was made by GLJ Holding Company of Columbus. They also recorded a request asking for the annexation of a portion of Union Township (1.322 acres +/-) to the Village of Laura, Ohio. That request was made on behalf of Wagner Paving Properties of Troy.
