Tipp heads into break with big win

The hat trick for the week is complete. The Tippecanoe Red Devils took care of business in their three conference games concluded with a 70-36 rout of Fairborn to run their record to 7-3 overall on the season.

Abbi Mader scored 11 points to lead an incredible balanced attack for Tipp. Courtney Post added 10 with Macey Griffin scoring nine and Liv Hiser adding eight.

“Back-to-back games with 70 points so it was a good game offensively. It was our pace of play with the style we like to play,” Tipp coach Julian Grasso said. “We like to get up and down and play a high possession game which is predicated on our defense to put pressure on the ball to create a hectic environment.”

Both teams battled in the opening three minutes before Courtney Post broke open a tie with a short jumper, giving Tipp the lead, which they never relinquished again.

Macey Griffin connected on a pair of threes late in the quarter, pushing the Tipp lead to 22-11 heading to the second period.

Tipp continued to pour it on to start the second, opening with a 6-2 start to the period. Then Mader buried a three with 3:10 left in the half, Tipp enjoyed a 34-16 lead.

The Red Devils led 43-24 at the half, then went on a third period run where they outscored Fairborn 13-1 in the quarter to put the game out of reach in the fourth. Emily Aselage scored four in the quarter and Madi Turner hit a big three to give Tipp control heading to the fourth.

“Our team is motivated right now after losing two games this season by one point, and we are not looking to take any game for granted,” Grasso said when asked about the factor of playing a game now that the Christmas break has arrived. “We had three conference games this week and we had a goal to win all three of them, and we got it done.”

*Earlier this week, Tipp defeated Piqua 48-30 as Reese Hoover led all Tipp scorers with 14 points, and Courtney Post came off the bench to add 13 in the victory for Tipp. Mader added nine as the Red Devils opened a tie game at halftime, then used a 13-2 third period to lead them to the win.

*It was a dominant performance at West Carrollton last week as the Red Devils cruised past the Pirates 77-35 behind 24 points from Mader in the victory. She also had six steals on defense.

Hoover had another big game with 12 points and Turner scored ten for the Red Devils.

The Red Devils led 50-13 at the half and used a running clock to put the game away.

Tipp now hosts Versailles on Saturday at 5pm which will be part of a big day of basketball against the Tigers. Both the JV and varsity girls and girls teams will play that day.

“It will be a great atmosphere to have both the boys and the girls playing on the same night back-to-back as some people have thought it was a good idea to have that happen, it will be fun,” Grasso said. “Versailles is a great program with a great tradition.”
