DAP Products commercial machinery fire

On Wednesday, November 6, Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services (TCFES) responded to 875 N. 3rd St., for a report of a fire with flames and smoke showing from the dryer on an industrial air compressor unit. The fire was reported by DAP plan personnel. Upon arrival, no smoke or fire was visible from the outside. The active fire was located in insulation and in the piping on an air compressor. Plant personnel were evacuated and no injuries were reported. The fire did not spread beyond this machine. The plant had been attempting to correct an electric issue prior to the fire being discovered. The fire was under control in 10 minutes.

Upon arrival Engine 32 found smoke conditions in the mechanical area of the plant. Chief 30 set incident command and crews performed fire attack and search in quick succession. The initial crew had water on the fire within minutes. Ladder 31 conducted a survey of the roof with normal conditions found. Bethel Engine 40 and Elizabeth Township Medic 45 were on the scene to assist all firefighting personnel at the time of the fire.

Mutual aid was automatically dispatched per our standard response. West Milton, Vandalia, Huber Heights(ladder), Bethel and Elizabeth Township all responded with crews. Tipp City Electric was advised of the situation inside the facility. Multiple contractors were on the scene to secure the electric service inside and diagnose the compressor.

The fire is most probably caused by a loose electric panel connection. The area of origin is the air compressor. The exact cause is unknown. Damages are estimated at $7,5000 to the compressor and electric equipment. The plant had to shut down production due to the compressor being shut down.

No injuries were reported at the time of the fire-by-fire crews or the facility. Crews were on the scene for approximately 1.5 hours.
