Jackson Davis leaving a great legacy

It has been a dream season so far for the Tippecanoe football team. An undefeated league championship and a trip into the playoffs.

But for Jackson Davis, the senior is leaving his mark in a big way, with eye-popping stats at the wide receiver position for the Red Devils.

As the only receiver in the Miami Valley League with over 1,000 receiving yards, Davis will etch his mark in the record books in the history of Tipp football. But for the humble receiver, it is nothing about stats… his focus is on one big dream of bringing home the gold to Tippecanoe.

Davis mentioned the success was built from the work they did last summer to prepare for this new season and proving people wrong who might have thought they would be down.

“It has been awesome, and the chemistry is so great. It dates back to the summer with lifting, and it is about building our connection and special bond we have with each other,” Davis said. “Beating Bellbrook (opening week) definitely gave us a confidence boost, but every year it is reload for us, we are never taking a year off. It is next man up, and we all have confidence in each other, and it has propelled us this season.”

Despite his individual success, he is about focusing on team goals first. But he is excited to have reached a few of his goals.

“I have reached some of my goals like first-team all-league, but the main goal is the state championship,” he said. “I do have goals like getting all-Ohio, but our goal is to win that state title. We know if we keep winning games, the personal accolades are going to come.”

His game has really blossomed with the help of his sophomore quarterback Larkin Thomas, and they have proven to be the top offensive duo in the conference.

“Larkin and I have spent all of the off-season working hard to grow our connection. He has even pointed out things I need to work on, like going toward the ball and attacking the ball and not letting the ball come to me,” he said. “With the help of my coaches and my quarterback, I was able to improve my game while growing me and Larkins connection.”

Every Friday night, it seems that Davis is making the big catch on a long pass from Thomas, and he credits the guys up front for allowing the connection to grow.

“We trust each other and the offensive line helps us out tremendously,” Davis said. “Giving Larkin the time to put the ball in the right spot is what it’s all about.”

“Each week, coach gives us the speech ‘Prepare like champions’ and that is something we take to heart. We believe if we prepare every week like it’s a championship week, the game will get easier for us.”

While Davis has dominated at this level, his future in playing college football is something in the back of his mind as he makes a decision on where to play at the next level.

“I am still trying to find my home in the process,” he said. “Everyone from Tipp usually finds out late in the season where they are going.”
