Milton-Union Sports Roundup

Great things are happening for Milton-Union sports as the fall season is nearing its end. The Gazette is here to catch you up on all of it!

To start, we’ll head back to October 11, when the football team matched up against Bethel. The Dogs took the win, and this victory was marked as win number 500 for Milton-Union football! This is a wonderful feat.

Their next matchup was against Northridge. This game was labeled as a “big game” for the Bulldogs, and unfortunately, they lost 40-21. This is the first time since 1974 that Northridge has beaten Milton-Union in football. However, the team will move on from this loss and be prepared for their senior night game against Riverside.

On the volleyball court, they have conference awards and broken records. As for the All-Conference awards, Jenna Brumbaugh was named as First-Team All TRC, Mylee Jones as Second-Team All TRC, and Raylin Combs and Michaela Firks as Honorable Mention.

Brumbaugh not only had the All-Conference honor, but she broke the all-time kills leader record. Madison Jones previously held this record. At the time of the record break, Brumbaugh sat at 815 total kills in her career.

The Dogs entered tournament play at Butler High School against a good Dayton Christian team, but they fell in three sets. Unfortunately, the season came to an end. Congratulations to all the seniors on a wonderful career and to the team on a great season.

The girls soccer team entered their tournament play this past week with a matchup against Northwestern. The ‘Dogs took the win 1-0 with a goal from Chloe Crabtree. They then moved on to play Miami East in the District Semi-Finals.

In a very hard-fought game, the Dogs fell 4-2. The ending score was 0-0, so they moved to overtime, where it again ended at 0-0. The story was the same for double-overtime, still ending at 0-0. At this point, they had to compete in a shootout, where the game got away from them.

As for girls soccer All-Conference teams, Zyhir Bobbit and Crabtree were named First-Team All TRC and Kate Copp and Madelyn Crowe were named Second-Team. Congratulations on a great season and seniors on a great career.

On the other side of things, the boys soccer team also started their tournament play against Jackson Center, where they took a 4-0 win to move on. Mason Quesinberry was responsible for two goals, and Jacob Fraley and Logan Keys were responsible for the other two.

Along with the win, the All-Conference teams were announced. Levi Tracy, Keys, and Quesinberry were named First-Team All TRC and Tyler Combs and Fraley were named Second-Team. Also, head coach Todd Winchester was awarded Co-Coach of the Year. The team continued their play in a game against Legacy Christian in the district semi-finals.
