In 1915, Albert Martindale opened a general store in Pattytown, a crossroads in western Miami County. He got the idea of delivering to the people. His truck had cages on the back to hold chickens taken as payment. It also carried just about anything that was offered in the store. His son Ralph drove the truck. When he broke his hip, he gave the route up and, in 1946, opened a meat market on Hayes St. (St. Rt. 571).

Son Kenny and daughter-in-law Lenora took over, along with help from daughter Yvonne. The store operated until his retirement in 2000. They remembered birthdays, made Easter baskets for kids, and, at Christmas time, their cousin Bob played Santa.

A ritual was the weighing of new babies on a grocery scale. Many Miltonians started out that way. (From the W. M. Lions history book)
