Butler girls soccer defeats Sidney

Butler defeated Sidney 2-1 despite the heroic efforts of Sidney’s goalkeeper to stay on top of MVL in an exciting and hard-fought match on Wednesday, September 25.

The match outcome was determined from the start, with three of Butler's midfielders getting the warning shots off. Madison Budding, Samantha Chapman, and Scarlett Chambers came out with purpose, letting Sidney know they were here to win. With Samantha Rosenkranz's help, the midfielders locked down the center and continued to pressure the entire game.

The efforts of Carmella Decker and her determination to find the back of the net allowed for her two goals. The final came with about three minutes remaining and a well-placed ball played by Ayla Washburn. Gianna Kincaid and Olivia Grolnic led the center defense and controlled the game.

The defense had three great stops on one vs. one attempts from Sidney's top scorer. Butlers’ defense continued to come up with the ball when it counted. The defense efforts coming from Karenza Vandervort and Henna Gyan kept Sidney’s team at bay as they continued to intercept the ball repeatedly. Keeper Madalyn Hanks had a few key saves, helping to secure the win.
