TROY- Seven Sisters Apothecary & Art has announced the opening of a new studio located in Troy’s Sunshade Building.

“I’m so excited,” Seven Sisters Apothecary & Art owner Angela Sandlin said. “It’s been going pretty well.”

“I’ve been offering refreshments and one of my blends of tea every week,” she said. “I’m hoping to see more people from the community find us.”

The studio, which also features an apothecary shop, celebrated the opening during an open house held on Saturday, Sept. 14. The new space is located on the second floor of the Troy Sunshade Building at 619 Lincoln Ave.

“There are a lot of different artists and people in that building,” Sandlin said.

“It’s really cool,” she said. “I’ve started talking to other people there, and we’re hoping to have events so we can all open up and invite people to look around.”

Named in homage to Sandlin’s mother and her six sisters, Seven Sisters Apothecary & Art offers a wide variety of botanical products, including skin care products, oils and herbs, jewelry, and handcrafted artwork.

“It’s an Apothecary,” Sandlin said. “We sell organic herbs; we have a lot of handmade goods and jewelry. There’s a lot of different things.”

“I make everything myself,” Sandlin said.

“I enrolled in a three-year course on the Science and Art of Herbalism,” she said. “I really appreciate the clean ingredients I put into all my products. I find that a lot of times they are hard to find, or they’re very expensive.”

“My husband helps me; he‘s the muscle behind everything,” Sandlin said.

Originally from Troy, Sandlin grew up in Tipp City, where she currently lives with her husband, Lucas.

“He’s from Tipp City as well,” she said. “I grew up in Tipp; then I moved away when I was about 15, and I’ve lived all over the country.”

In addition to running Seven Sisters Apothecary & Art, Sandlin is also a teacher for Dayton Public Schools.

“I’m a teacher at Dayton Public Schools,” she said, “so during the summer, I keep busy by going all over the place. I’ve been doing vending at markets all summer.”

Sandlin said Seven Sisters Apothecary & Art is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except when she is busy with vending events.

“I just post on my Facebook page when the shop is open and where I’ll be if it’s not,” she said. “This weekend is the Heritage of Flight Festival in New Carlisle, and I’ll be there.”

Sandlin also plans to offer meditation and classes on how to make items like suncatchers or herbal tea.

“I am going to be hosting some classes,” she said. “Then we’re going to offer donation-based meditation on Sundays, coming up here in a few weeks.”
