Tipp City Council at-a-Glance

At the December 18 meeting, Tipp City Council members discussed two topics in their Study Session. First was the recently passed Ohio Marijuana legislation. Up for debate was placing a temporary moratorium on the granting of permits to allow Adult Use Cannabis Operators from establishing within the City of Tipp City.

The second issue discussed was the downtown Methodist Church’s proposal to share costs with the City for their parking lot renovation and periodic sealing and striping, which happens every 5 years or so. The church provides 51 spaces of public parking during non-church event hours.

In their regular meeting, the Council approved and voted into law:

  • Several ordinances for annexing land and allowing proposed signs for Sheetz and QuikTrip service stations around the 25A/I75 interchange.

  • An ordinance extending a moratorium for an additional 90 days on accepting applications and granting permits for new self-storage facilities within the city.

The Council also approved, via an emergency first and second reading:

  • An ordinance that would impose a 365-day moratorium on granting permits to adult-use Cannabis Operators within Tipp City.

New resolutions approved were:

  • Amend the current contract with SwimSafe Pool Management to increase the wages of pool staff from minimum wage to $14.00–$15.00 per hour.

  • Move forward to secure funding through grants and donations for the Doggie Splash Pad at Kyle Park, known as the “Lillie Pad” project.

  • Authorize the City Manager to execute a four-way agreement between Miami County and the cities of Piqua, Troy and Tipp City to share the annual costs of the Hazardous Materials (HAZ-MAT) Coordinator Position. Tipp City is responsible for 12% of the total for a cost of $2,931.55.

Finally, one new ordinance was proposed that will be voted on at the next council meeting.

  • Change the City’s Municipal Income Tax Code to be in accordance with the 2023 State of Ohio Budget Bill (HB 33).
