Boys Varsity Basketball in first three games of the season

The boys’ varsity basketball teams have played three total games within the last two weeks. The boys fell to Franklin Monroe on December 1, Graham in a close match-up on December 5, and to Lehman Catholic on December 8.

The boys’ season opener was a Friday night game against Franklin Monroe where they fell 44-15. The dogs played a great game defensively but had a hard time putting the shots up.

The following Tuesday, the boys had already improved on both ends of the game. They fell to Graham by only 3 points: 47-44. Senior Zach Lovin had a standout game for the dogs, putting up 13 points. Junior Wyatt Kimmel added 11, and junior Tyler Combs with 8. This game was difficult for the boys as one of their starting players (senior Braden Schaurer) is out due to a concussion. Coming out with intensity and drive to win the game is what kept the boys right on the edge of the victory.

The boys took a loss on the road during their first conference match up against Lehman Catholic. They fell 57-26. The boys were great on the 3-point line but were up against a team with lots of height, making it difficult to score from the inside.

Head coach Rusty Berner says that the team “plays extremely hard and defend well but we need to continue to get better on the offensive end.”

A special shoutout to freshman Levi Brumbaugh, who has seen lots of playing time during the varsity games while also scoring some points for the bulldogs. He is a key player on the junior varsity team, making it hard to not let him see the varsity floor.

Although the boys have had a difficult start to the season, they are hopeful of picking up some more wins.
