Tree Lighting ceremony lights up Tipp City

Downtown’s annual ‘Yuletide Winter’s Gathering 2023’ kicked off its holiday weekend festivities with the Community Tree Lighting ceremony on Friday, November 10, from 6-7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.

As the fall sunset faded into night, the tree-lined Main Street twinkled in white holiday lights, and the crisp air was filled with the warmth of Christmas as families swarmed around the stage with hot cocoa, kettle corn, and fried waffles in hand.

The ceremony started with an introduction by Buddy the Elf, games with the audience and a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and concluded with a Christmas carol acoustic sing-along led by Tipp City native, Cory Breth, and accompaniment by Buddy the Elf, Jovie, and the Tipp High School choir.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the countdown began, with the crowd erupting in harmonious cheers and applause seconds later as the dark, oversized pine tree magically lit up the street in bright green, red, and blue lights. Families quickly huddled together for pictures, while Buddy the Elf and Jovie mingled with the guests.

In the hours before the tree lighting, the DTCP also sponsored a pancake dinner as shoppers enjoyed the festive downtown. Special thanks to the Downtown Tipp City Partnership (DTCP) for hosting a wonderful night of spreading Christmas cheer to everyone in attendance!
